I’ve been looking at C30s for a while now and I think I found one that really ticks all the boxes. I’ve been mainly looking at the pre-refresh 2008 - 2010 models. But the other day I saw an ad for a 2013 Polestar and that color combo with the black wheels and the R Design interior just fell together for me. I would be trading my 128i in for this car. Any comments on if the Polestar is worth it over a regular C30 R Design? Or any commenters have experience with C30 ownership that have advice for me?

I’ve never been behind the wheel but from every other seat its great. Worth noting the top one isn’t the US Polestar. Not sure where you are but the ones here are milder than the ones across the pond.
But half the fun to me is knowing thats its one of only 250. My roommate bought this exact car.
Honestly sounds way better IRL.
EDIT: oops, your bottom pic is not us also, now assuming this comment is irrelevant.

Yeah I know the ones posted are not US spec, they may even be the prototype concept. I didn’t want to link to the one I’m trying to get. It’s about 1,000 miles away from me.

Good morning! I did a fairly long write up of my Polestar for another oppo looking at buying a C30. THe tl;dr there was C30s are good cars, with quirks.
As for if the Polestar Limited Edition (LE) is worth it over a normal C30? I have no idea. I’d say if you like the look of it, yes. The wheels and paint are unique to the LE (in the US) and I think they look great together.
The Polestar tune itself was available as a dealer option on almost any Volvo and presumably you could still go to the dealer and get that tune added for $2k or whatever, though I imagine your money would be better spent on an aftermarket tune. New, the LE was a good idea because it was something like $5k of options (polestar tune + R-design) for $2k, so that was cool. I’ve heard tales that the LE came a beefed up intake and a few other gadgets, but I have been unable to confirm, mostly because I don’t care.
Also having the LE does give you a little cred at car meets, if you’re into that sort of thing. They really did only make 250 of them.

Thank you for the input. I just found out the dealer incorrectly listed the one I wanted at manual. It’s a 2 pedal, which is a dealbreaker for me.

That is tragic! If you’re really on the hunt, C30crew.com was the forum for these, last I checked. (Since I’m not really into mods, I haven’t been on in a while). Might be worth poking around there and see if anyone has any leads.

The C30 is on the same platform as the 1st gen Mazda 3 and 2nd gen non-US Ford Focus (the “2nd gen” US-market Focus was a refreshed, uglified and cheaped out version of the original). Overall it’s very similar to the Focus ST sold in Europe at the time, they use the same motor, etc.
Unfortunately it lacks the Quaife LSD and RevoKnuckle front strut design of the Focus RS. The C30 T5, Focus ST and Mazdaspeed 3 all have above-average amounts of torque steer.
The main performance features of note on the Polestar LE, aside from the ECU tune, are a bit stiffer suspension and a 10% quicker steering gear.

Can’t help much on the Volvo side of it, but I say buy it. Of course, I may be biased due to the color combination.

Swedish racing green is the best color!

It really is nice. I need a new car so I can sound as good as the roomies (other one has a 500 Abarth).

That’s some tough competition, finding something rival them this side of $50k can be trying.

The struggle is real, I’ll have to think of something good.
